In just a few short years, Randy Rhoads redefined rock 'n' roll guitar by blending smooth, classically inspired legato passages and melodies with screaming, violin-like solos and heavy riffs. One of the key components of his unique sound was the MXR Distortion+—a pedal Randy used to push his high-gain amplifier to create a signature tone filled with harmonic overtones, leaving an unforgettable mark on music history.
MXR honors his monumental legacy with this faithful recreation of Randy’s very own MXR Distortion+. For the first time in 42 years, the Rhoads family opened Randy’s pedalboard to MXR’s design team at the family’s music school in Los Angeles, the Musonia School of Music.
There, history was made as MXR’s engineers carefully examined the pedalboard and documented every detail from this rock ’n’ roll artifact. With the help of Randy’s sister, Kathy Rhoads, the engineers meticulously recreated Randy’s vintage Distortion+ and designed this signature model to deliver the same tones heard on his most beloved songs. Naturally, the pedal features a custom finish inspired by Randy’s legendary Flying V guitar.
